There are over 20,000 players in India
They are the ones who are reason for existence of District Federations, State Federations and National Federation. If there are no players, how can the Associations and Federation exist. Not a single player, how can they exist. With whom will they conduct tournaments. How will they get money ??
But each and every single chess player has "no say" in decision making process of Associations and AICF. They are there, thousands in number responsible for the existence of District Associations and others. But they have absolutely "zero influence" over 2 dozen people. Notice the number, 2 dozen is 24 persons.
AICF is of 10 persons
Each State federation is of 5 persons.
Each District federation is of 5 persons.
The number of persons responsible is not even 24 in number. These 20 persons take decisions, put prize money and even loot money.
For example,
I played a King Chess Foundation FIDE rated tournament in year 2014 at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Periamet, Chennai. The entry fee was Rs 1300, Rs 1200 etc but not less than 1100. The number of players were more than 1000. So 1000 players x Rs 1000 = 10 Lakhs. In just 3 days, they collected 10 Lakhs giving a cash prize of say 4 Lakhs. The remaining 6 Lakhs is profit. Out of 1000 players, 40 walk with prizes, 960 PLAYERS LOSE MONEY. The tournament fee, transportation money, hotel money, restaurant money and all the money, they lose. Just for the "passion of playing chess" or "the ego feeling of playing chess". It is a kind of lottery. Few win and "many lose"
They did not bother even to put drinking water facility there, with parents of 800 players waiting outside. I had to drink coloured drink juice that was of too much sugar and hurry to the tournament hall. Consequence, i had to get permission from my opponent and went 3 times to loo in that round. This has been remaining a thorn in my mind, since then.
So it was 800 players x Rs 1200 = 9.6 lakhs in 3 days. Is there a single chess player who can earn that money in 3,000 or 30,000 days ?
These people exist because of chess players and chess players have "no say" in their decision making process. This is an attempt to involve 20,000 playes in India to "influence" the decision of 20 persons, 10 persons in AICF, 5 persons in State Federations and 5 persons in District Federations.
It will be 20,000 chess players vs 20 persons in India.
In Bengaluru and most cities, it is now Rs 2500 for a FIDE rated tourament. So if 1000 players play, they earn 25 Lakhs rupees in 3 days. Out of 1000 players, 40 would get cash prize and 960 will go home with loss.
Why do they fix Rs 2500 entry fee. What work do they do, other than a laptop and few print outs.
